Treatment of non-gonococcal urethritis with tri-acetyl-oleandomycin.

چکیده
The number of male cases of non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) treated in the clinics of England and Wales continues to rise steadily each year, and have done so ever since figures were first published in 1951. The cause of the condition remains undiscovered and a variety of antibiotics, including the tetracyclines, spiramycin, erythromycin, and streptomycin (in conjunction with sulphonamides), may be used in its treatment. The present paper concerns the use of tri-acetyl-oleandomycint capsules, each containing tri-acetyl-oleandomycin equivalent to 250 mg. oleandomycin base. One hundred male patients with uncomplicated NGU were each given one 250-mg. capsule four times daily for 6 days (total 6 g.).

Treatment of non-gonococcal urethritis with sigmamycin. A controlled method of investigation.
Sigmamycin is a 2 :1 combination of the antibiotics tetracycline hydrochloride and oleandomycin phosphate, and the claim has been made that this combination exhibits a synergistic action, so that the two drugs together are more potent than the sum of the individual components. To test this claim two separate trial series of patients were treated, using a small dose for a minimum time in the fir...

The long-acting "sulfamoxole" has the advantage that fewer doses are required. Sulphonamides alone are not particularly successful in non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU). The best results have been obtained with the tetracyclines (with and without oleandomycin), and success rates of 81 -5 to 85 4 per cent. may be obtained (Willcox, 1958). A number of authors (e.g. Lyall, 1953; Jelinek, 1957; Prebbl...
متن کاملMinocycline in the treatment of non-gonococcal urethritis.
108 male patients with non-gonococcal urethritis have been treated with minocycline given as two 100 mg. tablets initially, followed by one tablet twice a day over a period of 6 days (13 tablets). Of 96 patients followed, re-treatment for non-gonococcal urethritis within 3 months was undertaken in ten (10.4 per cent.). The findings are compared with those previously reported in seven series inv...
